Fliption- Oct. 2024~ Dec. 2024

  • Time to Sell Stories, Not Just Software

After my first B2B role at Estuary, a data streaming SaaS company, I made a bold transition into a completely different landscape — the world of creative tech. Fliption, a generative AI startup that helps e-commerce brands and studios build photorealistic product visuals using synthetic models, was just beginning to expand into the U.S. market. The shift in buyer personas was massive — from technical data engineers to art directors and creative leads — and it demanded a fresh sales strategy rooted in empathy, storytelling, and vision.

    Responsibilities:

Joining Fliption during its early U.S. go-to-market phase, I brought with me the foundational sales knowledge I had built at Estuary — including how to structure a repeatable sales funnel, identify high-intent prospects, and build scalable outreach systems. One of my first tasks was helping Fliption implement LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Apollo.io from scratch, embedding these tools into their outbound workflow. I trained the CEO and founding team on using them effectively, which improved sales efficiency and gave them a clear playbook to work with.

But tech tools were only part of the solution. Fliption’s unique value lies in enabling creative teams — from fashion brands to digital studios — to build consistent and diverse visual assets without relying on traditional photography. I developed and tested over 50 personalized cold email sequences using Account-Based Marketing (ABM) strategies that spoke directly to these creatives. My messaging emphasized time saved on reshoots, brand consistency across campaigns, and the ability to experiment visually without logistical barriers. This approach helped drive a 15% open rate and a 5% reply rate — a strong performance for an unestablished brand in a niche vertical.

    Takeaways:

Fliption was where I learned that great sales isn’t just about features — it’s about painting a future your buyer wants to live in. I adapted everything I had previously learned to a new audience, embracing creativity, curiosity, and technical enablement all at once. It was also a lesson in humility — teaching non-technical founders how to use modern sales tools, while learning from their vision, challenged me to be more flexible and clear in how I communicated. Most of all, it taught me the power of positioning — when your product resonates with the right story, people listen.

Estuary- Jun. 2024 ~ Sep. 2024

Time to Embrace the Hard Things

Estuary was where I truly learned what it meant to push past discomfort. As my first role in technical B2B sales, I was thrown into an unfamiliar world of real-time data pipelines and stream processing. Estuary’s platform enables organizations to sync data across systems in real time—without writing custom code—a huge value in the data infrastructure space. But selling that vision to engineers, product managers, and technical decision-makers? That was a challenge I had to grow into.

Responsibilities:

The cold calls were the hardest part. Every morning, I’d dial into 50+ conversations knowing that rejection was more likely than not. It was intimidating—sometimes discouraging—but I knew those moments were where the growth happened. I made a decision early on: the fear wasn’t going away, so I had to get stronger. I reminded myself daily that every ‘no’ sharpened my pitch and brought me closer to a ‘yes.’

I was fortunate to work alongside people who helped accelerate that growth. Collaborating with the CEO, experienced account executives, and a team that genuinely believed in the product pushed me to operate at a higher level. Their feedback made me sharper not only as a BDR but also as a communicator and teammate.

When it came to email outreach, I knew generic messaging wouldn’t cut it. Estuary’s value proposition—eliminating pipeline maintenance and enabling real-time analytics—was powerful, but the people I reached out to were deeply value-driven and highly technical. Through A/B testing and personalization, I tailored each message to reflect the specific bottlenecks of the industry I was targeting—be it syncing events in gaming, reducing data latency in AdTech, or simplifying ETL for SaaS. This data-informed, value-first approach helped me consistently break through inbox noise and book high-intent conversations.

Takeaways:

At Estuary, I learned to sell through uncertainty. I learned how to earn trust in a technical space, how to speak the language of builders, and how to show up even when things felt hard. Most of all, I learned that the most rewarding part of sales isn’t just closing deals—it’s the grind of becoming someone who can. That mindset has stuck with me ever since.

Leveraging Technology into Marketing

During my internship at Bondit, an innovative tech company specializing in a revolutionary course-scheduling application for college students, I had the opportunity to explore the dynamic world of social media management. Working closely with a talented team of designers and coder-writers, our collective goal was to promote the app by leveraging on popular platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and GroupMe.

Responsibilities:

As a Campus Ambassador for New York University, I played a vital role in promoting the Bondit app among college students. By tailoring the content to resonate with their interests and needs, we effectively generated interest and curiosity about the app.

To ensure personalized communication, I shared testimonials and reviews from actual users who had positive experiences with the app. This approach helped build trust and credibility among our target audience, encouraging more students to explore and try out Bondit.

As part of the development team, we brainstormed and case-studied about the app's designs and features, aiming to establish a clear value proposition. We effectively communicated the app's unique benefits, such as efficient course scheduling, easy communication with peers, and real-time campus news updates, all of which strongly resonated with college students.

In the testing phase, I actively gathered user feedback and played a key role in solving client issues. By being responsive and proactive, we addressed concerns and ensured a smooth user experience. Our collaborative efforts, along with effective problem-solving, further solidified Bondit's position as a valuable tool for college students, empowering them to make the most of their academic endeavors.

Republic of Korea Air Force 15th Special Missions Wing - Aviation Fuel Operations Coordinator

Sep. 2020~June 2022

My life has been a constant dilemma of national identity between Korean and American. Being the first generation of our family to hold United States citizenship, I was constantly struck with a question: 'Am I Korean or American?' I had to make a choice. Instead of trying to find the right fit, I decided to embrace my background and take advantage of my duality. I decided to enlist in the Republic of Korea Air Force on September 21st, 2020 despite the freedom from the conscription.

“You Can Be My Wingman” - Top Gun Maverick

When people hear "Air Force," they often assume I've flown an aircraft, but contrary to that expectation, I did not take to the skies. However, my role was just as vital as I was part of the Aviation Fuel Management Battalion, responsible for ensuring the seamless functioning of aircraft by managing their lifeblood - aviation fuel. Working collaboratively with various teams, including administration, storage, transportation, and quality management, our collective aim was to deliver optimal aviation experiences for high-ranking officials.

Responsibilities:

As an administrative soldier, my main responsibility involved meticulously handling the inventory management of aviation fuel. I diligently maintained records of its usage, imports, and exports using specialized military software known as DELIS/F. My attention to detail and organizational skills were instrumental in maintaining the battalion's operational efficiency and readiness.

Additionally, I played a supportive role in the maintenance group by assisting with fueling refueling vehicles during times of manpower shortages. This role demanded meticulous handling of equipment such as valves and hoses, requiring a collective attitude and a strong emphasis on teamwork. It was essential to work collaboratively to ensure smooth and efficient fueling operations, guaranteeing that aircraft had the necessary fuel for their missions.

In handling soldier leave, I coordinated and managed the scheduling and approvals, maintaining proper staffing levels while ensuring the well-being and work-life balance of the personnel. As part of the Fuel Management Battalion, I undertook various administrative tasks to support the smooth functioning of the unit.

I had the opportunity to put my English proficiency to good use, serving part-time as a translator. This allowed me to interact with U.S Air Force authorities, providing them with guidance during their visits to our base. Such interactions not only improved my communication skills but also gave me exposure to working with esteemed individuals.

Takeaways:

One of the most significant lessons I learned during this experience was the value of camaraderie and teamwork. Working in harmony with my dedicated team members was both fulfilling and challenging. The experience strengthened my mental fortitude, as I underwent rigorous training, focusing on both physical fitness and honing my management abilities.

Overall, my military journey taught me the value of persistence, diligence, and hard work. It revealed that success is not solely achieved through individual efforts, but through collective determination and teamwork. As I reflect on these lessons, I feel grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the optimal functioning of Republic of Korea Aviation and for the personal growth it instilled in me.

The First Dive into the Real World

D.M Construction - Kimcheon-si, South Korea

Embarking on my first internship with a reputable local construction company, I've been exposed to a world of steady accomplishments in the construction business. Duk Myoung, abbreviated to DM, specializes in electrical construction and installation services, encompassing electrical, plumbing, ventilation, and security systems, for various types of buildings and structures.

Responsibilities:

As an intern, my tasks have revolved around bookkeeping, acquainting myself with the ins and outs of accounts payable and receivable functions. My attention to detail and accuracy were essential in maintaining precise financial records, ultimately contributing to the successful completion of audits and financial reporting.

Additionally, I've had the unique opportunity to participate in on-site construction, which has been nothing short of an eye-opening experience.

Takeaways:

Throughout my time here, one vital lesson has stood out above all else—the significance of a strong foundation. Just as a well-constructed building relies on a solid base for proper functioning and safety, so does one's journey to building wealth, as eloquently explained by Robert Kiyosaki. He beautifully compares the process of building wealth to constructing the Empire State Building, emphasizing the need to begin with a deep hole and a robust foundation. Many individuals, in their rush to attain riches, attempt to construct an "Empire State Building" on a mere 6-inch slab.

In the same way that a meticulously constructed foundation is crucial for the stability and longevity of a building, having a meticulous sense in keeping financial records is equally important in the realm of personal and professional success. As I assisted with bookkeeping tasks during my internship, I realized that accurate financial records serve as the backbone of a thriving business, providing the necessary insights and support for sound decision-making and growth. By valuing precision in both my financial work and my overall personal development, I am laying the groundwork for a prosperous future built on solid principles.
