Korean International Students Organization (KISO)

Mentor, Marketing Director, Secretary

Mentor..? How could I be a Mentor?

Leveraging My Interest at The Organization

Taking on the Marketing Director role in our committee really kicked off a whole new level of responsibility for me. Having deep passion for video editing and marketing, this was my shot to really push myself further. Leading the charge, I got to work closely with a squad of five super talented people. Every week, we'd get our heads together to brainstorm and crank out awesome posters and content to get our organization noticed.

One of the coolest projects we tackled was diving into our city's hidden culinary gems and bringing them into the spotlight. Sure, steering the team came with its fair share of challenges, but man, was it worth it. I absolutely loved every bit of it - from nailing our goals together to the strong friendships we built along the way.

As I entered the final chapter of my college journey, a deep desire to leave a lasting mark inspired me to aim for the top spot in the organization that I held dear. Following a series of interviews, I was honored with the position of Secretary in The Presidential Committee. With the realization that this would be my final involvement in a college club, a profound sense of responsibility washed over me.

In my role, I diligently kept track of every detail from our weekly meetings, capturing the essence of our discussions, decisions, and maintaining detailed records of our activities, triumphs, and governing principles.

A highlight of my tenure was the significant partnership I nurtured through dedicated email and social media engagement, leading to collaboration with a local restaurant. This effort culminated in a General Meeting that drew an audience of over 70 students.

Honestly, I never thought I'd be the one giving advice – yet, there I was, stepping into the role of a mentor for KISO without fully realizing how quickly time had passed. My mentoring adventure was all about guiding, supporting, and having a great time with the new Korean freshmen on campus. I threw myself into helping them academically, planning cool cultural outings, and helping everyone connect more deeply with our community.

One of the coolest things I did was set up coffee chats. It turned out to be an awesome way for students to open up about what they were going through, looking at me with hopeful eyes. I also got us together for lunch hangouts and fun outdoor stuff like workouts and concerts.

Seeing the real difference I could make in their college life has been super rewarding. It's fired me up even more to do whatever I can to make our community better.

NYU Korean Soccer Team: F.C. Big Apple (FCBA)

2023 Korean American Soccer Tournament (KAST) Champions

During my time at NYU, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of FCBA, the renowned Korean soccer team representing the university. Known for its storied history of championships, FCBA demanded dedication and commitment, requiring us to engage in rigorous weekly soccer practices and adhere to a structured training regimen. Our focus extended beyond individual skills, as we worked tirelessly to develop tactical strategies and foster strong team-work attributes.

Together with a group of hardworking individuals, we embarked on a challenging journey that culminated in a proud and triumphant moment at the Korean American Soccer Tournament 2023, hosted by the AKP Sports Foundation. After a year of persistent effort and unwavering determination, we proudly lifted the championship trophy, savoring the sweet taste of success.

This experience taught me the invaluable lesson that true success often requires time and perseverance. Through our collective commitment and unwavering belief in one another, we achieved greatness, solidifying cherished memories that will inspire and motivate me in all my future endeavors.

Clarinet

2015- present

From my middle school days until now, playing the clarinet has been an enduring source of joy and fulfillment for me. Even today, I continue to play it purely for the pleasure it brings. The clarinet's beauty lies in its unique ability to serve both as a rhythmic element and a foundational component in music. Its versatility allows it to adapt seamlessly to various musical genres and styles.

When I pick up the clarinet, I feel a profound connection to the melody and rhythm of the songs I play. As it weaves its melodious notes into the fabric of the music, the clarinet adds depth and richness, enhancing the overall sound. It's a remarkable instrument that can take on different roles, from providing a captivating lead melody to providing a solid, steady base for other instruments to build upon.
